Expanded metal is a type of sheet metal which has been cut and stretched to form a regular pattern (often diamond-shaped) of metal mesh-like material. It is commonly used for fences and grates, and as metallic lath to support plaster or stucco.It is a rigid, non-raveling piece of metal that has been slit and expanded. In the expanding process, metal can be expanded ten times its original size, lose up to 80% of its weight, becoming stronger and more rigid. No material is lost in the manufacturing process.

Raised expanded metal is also known as standard expanded metal. Raised expanded metal is made by shearing and stretching the metal sheet with a set of die on a press, creating diamond shaped openings.
Flattened expanded metal is made by passing standard expanded metal through a cold rolled reducing mill, leaving a flat and smooth surface that is similar to perforated metal. The rolling process makes the strands and bonds down, thus reducing the thickness of the metal sheet and stretching the pattern.
Steel expanded metal is produced from one steel plate or roll through simultaneously slitting and stretching, which forms a wide array of diamond shaped openings with uniform sizes. During the expanding process, the metal can be expanded up to ten times its original width, losing up to 80 % its weight per meter, and becomes more rigid.
Stainless steel expanded metal is made of stainless steel metal sheet, through die slitting and stretching to form uniform diamond shaped openings. In the manufacturing process, no material is lost, and it offers savings in weight, as well as free passage of light, liquid, sound and air.
Micro expanded metal, a kind of special expanded metal, is made from a high quality fine steel sheet of aluminum, carbon steel, galvanized steel or stainless steel that is uniformly slit and stretched into diamond, hexagonal and other hole patterns you want.
Expanded metal grating is manufactured by piercing and stretching the metal sheet in one operation creating anti-slip surface with diamond openings. The anti-slip surface offers safe foothold to stand and walk, and the openings provides free passage for unwanted materials, also gives an aesthetic appeal for design.
